And we’re “officially” on the go!

I was so excited last week when I finally received confirmation from an overseas supplier but this week was so much better! I actually became a registered company, it doesn’t get any more real than that.

I’ve been working on my website, for what seems like forever, and I still need to source the perfect stock. I don’t just want anything and that’s probably what’s holding me up.  There’s plenty out there, it’s just not quite what I’m after. I was writing my “About” page earlier and, after I lost my momentary writers block, summed up my needs as…

…”When hosting the family Christmas I relished thinking of, and decorating, my tables to a theme but struggled to find what I was looking for! I wanted to stick to a colour theme, I wanted items that had significance to our families and I wanted it to look elegant. I love handcrafted items and those traditional holiday items that won’t date…but without having to wait for them to come from overseas, I just couldn’t find what I was looking for.”…

So, my business is now registered, I’ve contacted suppliers and am wading through the products, my website is live – with no products! – but at least it’s ‘live’. I just have to load the ones I’ve decided on and go from there.

I can’t believe I’ve gotten to this point. It seemed so daunting with school drop offs, pick ups, the three year old and the twins but I made up my mind and I just.kept.chugging.along. Now I need to build momentum and start selling!

You can now check out my website (I’ve added it to my profile as Online Shop) and give me some feedback on what you see so far (if you have nothing better to do) and make sure to keep checking with us as we will have stock soon! If there is anything you wish you could find in Australia, but can’t, let me know and I’ll try and source it!

So…again…Come join me on my journey, give me advice if you have it or just give me some encouragement. I look forward to posting as I go…

How exciting! It’s all happening now…

I’ve felt like I’m treading water lately but today I received confirmation from my first supplier! I also bit the bullet and registered my company, if I don’t do it now there is no way I can be up and running for Easter. I can forever wallow in ‘what ifs’ and a fear of the unknown but I will never know unless I get off my rear and do it! The only thing I do know is that I don’t want to be even a year down the track wondering what would be different if I had given it a go.

So…as I’ve said before…Come join me on my journey, give me advice if you have it or just give me some encouragement. I look forward to posting as I go…

My favourite “pin” today…

If I had the time and could hand make everything in my shop, this would be one of the products I would make…

Christmas DIY

Martha Stewart DIY

These would look so cute on the mantel, on the tree or as part of a table centrepiece.  You can find the DIY here…Martha Stewart…Homemade House.

This week I’ve been setting up my Facebook page, pinning in Pinterest (which not only gives me inspiration for products but reminds me why I’m opening the shop…you can follow me here…The Holiday Shoppe on Pinterest), working on my logo, looking into the best eCommerce site to set my shop up on and have consulted my accountant on registering the business!  I’ve been pretty busy but still feel I’m making little progress as, until the business is registered, I can’t purchase stock and, while I’m going through the set-up process, I don’t have time to make any handmade stock!  Never mind that I also decided to get into this during school holidays so also have the 5 children to entertain.  I don’t think that I’ve ever been quite so sure about something though and that’s certainly keeping me motivated!

A little about my dream…

I think this must be one of the most difficult periods of getting this home business off the ground…building my online presence while no one knows I exist, getting a business case together to make sure I’m a viable business, no stock to spruik yet, 5 kids to look after, completing the business registration process and looking for the ‘right’ suppliers. I’m sticking to my guns though, I will get this little shop up and running!

I have a clear idea of what I want to sell, I just have to find the people and convince them that I can sell their stock.  It’s probably best that I’m looking overseas as most of this happens after all the kids have gone to bed! As I said before, I have 5 children aged 9, 8, 3, and 1 year old twins. I’m loving being home with them but need something to keep me busy as well. Looking to go back to work in July as a Business Analyst but would love to be able to stay home, be there for my kids and run my own little business. So, I decided to start up what I have wanted to do for so many years…

I’m going to stock handmade decorations, those holiday items that are hard to find in Australia and confectionary which I’ll do for the holidays throughout the year rather than just Christmas. This blog is to keep me on track and will eventually show decorating and wrapping tips, upcoming trends for each season and DIY instructions for beautiful things you can make yourself. Soon I’ll be sending out my feelers for those beautiful handmade holiday items that I know are out there and looking for guest bloggers to give DIY tips. I wish I could do them all myself but, to be honest, while I get everything else up and running, time will be at a premium!

Come join me on my journey, give me advice if you have it or just give me some encouragement.  I look forward to posting as I go…

Wish me luck…

I’ve wanted to do this for so long, I have a picture of the shop in my head, I know what I want in there, I can see myself arranging the shelves as the holidays change…

I’ve finally decided to do something about it.  I’m using this blog to keep myself motivated, there’s so much to consider, so much to get done but I would rather chase my dream than spend my whole life wondering “what if”.  I’m trying to source suppliers, I’m building my online presence and soon I hope to open an online shop and then, I hope, I can open my first pop-up shop and eventually a permanent shop.  I don’t think this will be an easy process, but what truly enjoyable thing just comes easily?! As a mom to five children, I know that the best things in life don’t come easily…hehehe.
